RATIONALE

The statutory requirement to report parents/caregivers on their child’s progress is detailed in the Education Act and also required under NAG 1. We seek to ensure that all parents and caregivers have access to relevant information regarding achievement at school.

PURPOSES

1. To ensure parents have access to information on their child’s progress at school in each curriculum area.

2. To assist with developing links between the school and home for the benefit of the students.

3. To fulfil statutory obligations.

GUIDELINES

1. Parents and caregivers will have reasonable access to their child’s details of progress at school.

2. Notice of access to information should be given by a parent or caregiver to the school allowing sufficient time to collate relevant information.

3. The school will operate an “Open Door” policy to encourage a two way free flow of information between home and school for the educational benefit of students.

4. During any meeting between a caregiver and a teacher where the caregiver becomes abusive, threatening or aggressive, the teacher must terminate the interview and seek assistance or advice from a senior staff member, Deputy Principal or Principal.

5. Where teachers are concerned about the progress, effort, attitude or behaviour of students they may contact parents or caregivers to inform them and consider ways of addressing the problem.

6. A “Settling In Report” will be issued in March to caregivers of Year 7 students to indicate how their child has settled into Intermediate School and convey any problems or strengths noted.

7. Mid Year reports will be provided at the end of the school term or early third term and will be combined with parent interviews.

8. End of Year reports will be provided for parents at the end of the school year.

9. All information relating to student is subject to the Privacy Act provisions.
