Information & Communication Technology Policy

Information Communication Technology includes systems that enable the collection, structuring, manipulation, retrieval and communication of information in various forms. This includes audio and graphical communications, the use of electronic networks and interactive multi media.

PURPOSE

1. To expose the students to and practice using a wide variety of information communication technology available in the home and workplace.

2. For students to develop a range of essential skills through using information communication technology.

3. For students to realise that information communication is an essential part of everyday life and that it continues to be developed at a rapid rate.

4. To make use of information technology aware that procedures , routines and care are necessary to obtain the maximum benefit and length of life from the equipment.

5. To make users of information technology aware that due consideration needs to be given to an individuals personal rights and privacy.


GUIDELINES

1. A plan for purchase and replacement of Information Communication Technology equipment be in place and be regularly updated.

2. Teachers and students have varying degrees of knowledge and expertise in using Information Communication Technology. This must be taken into account when developing and planning programmes.

3. As Information Communication Technology is introduced and used within the school, guidelines, routines and procedures will be developed for the use of these.

4. The use of computers in school is outlined in the School Organisation Folder.

5. Staff Development is an essential ingredient for Information Communication Technology to be effectively used in the school.

6. Information Communication Technology is an integral part of the class technology / learning programme.

7. The Internet Acceptable Use Policy must be followed by staff and student must be made aware of the requirements of it. The internet cannot be used by students until the ‘Internet Use Agreement’ is signed by parents / guardians and returned to school.

8. The school will take whatever reasonable measure it sees fit to protect software and hardware from corrupting damage, viruses etc.

9. Staff must be aware of privacy issues and that material sent may be viewed by person(s) other than who it was intended. If this occurs, the material sent must not contravene the school’s privacy policy or guidelines, or conditions laid down in the Internet Acceptable Use Policy.

10. Material sent by students or staff are acting as the school’s agent and as such abide by the terms of the Internet Acceptable Use Policy.
