The ICT programme provided for our students is
primarily skills based. Students attend approximately six 80 minute sessions
over a term. During this time they are taught skills that they can apply when carrying out work on their classroom
computer.
The ICT room has 18 networked computers, 1 scanner, 2 digital
cameras, 1 inkjet printer & access to the colour photocopier.
Each student who attends this room is able to work individually on their projects.
One computer is permanently set up to cater for our visually impaired students allowing equity for all students in ICT.
The Year 7 students use MS PowerPoint 2010. They plan and produce a
slideshow on a chosen invertebrate. They research information
from the Information Centre, the internet and, when necessary
use teacher guided web sites. They must reference all images
and any text used that is not their own.
The Year 8 students plan a PowerPoint presentation on a
chosen country (not New Zealand).
They carry out the following
activities:
- Source weather information from the capital city of their chosen
country.
- Using MS Excel 2010 enter the average temperature and average rainfall information into a spreadsheet
- manipulating columns, fonts, borders, text colour and cell fill colours in the worksheet.
- Select data and graph the average temperature & rainfall figures individually. Adding colour, texture and
manipulating fonts.
- Create a MS PowerPoint presentation on their country with emphasis
on map/place in the world, flag, coat of arms/emblem, geography,
statistics, population, ethnic makeup, fauna.
