Purpose

  1. To assist children in developing a positive attitude to independent study at home and to help them realise the need for it.

  2. To develop study routines and time management strategies to enable students to make the most of the learning opportunities available to them in the future.

  3. To consolidate and building on the work and skills covered in class.

  4. To extend and broaden the knowledge, skills and attitudes gained at school.

  5. To provide better communication between the school and home.

Objectives

  1. Homework is to be a regular part of the classroom programme.

  2. Homework to be carried out must be appropriate to each child’s needs and abilities.

  3. Teacher’s directions to children on what is expected needs to be clear and understood.

  4. Although homework is not compulsory parents/guardians of children who regularly do not complete it should be advised as it is an important part of their learning.

  5. Teachers must take into account the resources children have at home to do homework.

  6. Homework will be set on a regular basis and not take more than one hour per night on four nights a week.

  7. Homework will be regularly marked and / or evaluated by teachers.
