Purpose
- To assist children in developing a positive attitude to independent
study at home and to help them realise the need for it.
- To develop study routines and time management strategies to enable
students to make the most of the learning opportunities available to them
in the future.
- To consolidate and building on the work and skills covered in class.
- To extend and broaden the knowledge, skills and attitudes gained at
school.
- To provide better communication between the school and home.
Objectives
- Homework is to be a regular part of the classroom programme.
- Homework to be carried out must be appropriate to each child’s needs
and abilities.
- Teacher’s directions to children on what is expected needs to be clear
and understood.
- Although homework is not compulsory parents/guardians of children who
regularly do not complete it should be advised as it is an important part
of their learning.
- Teachers must take into account the resources children have at home to
do homework.
- Homework will be set on a regular basis and not take more than one hour
per night on four nights a week.
- Homework will be regularly marked and / or evaluated by teachers.
