Nau Mai, Haere Mai ki te
Kura ō Te Tokoroa Intermediate School

Welcome to our school community.

Alongside whānau we promote high levels of achievement for students and offer a wide range of activities in sport, cultural and specialist fields.

These two years in which students spend with us, is a very important period in their development. These are a time of rapid change and challenge for both parent and child. The teaching and learning that takes place during these years acknowledges this and caters for this age group in a different way than schooling that comes before and after. It is an important transitional period.

Teachers of this age group recognise that their students have special needs in that they need to nuture students in the same wasy they are used to primary school but also there is a need to challenge students academically.

At Tokoroa Intermediate School  there is a heavy focus on ..

- Teaching students about strategies for learning on their own

- Integrating subjects students are taught on a much grander scale

- Building analytical and problem-solving skills

- Teaching students to recognise they can build on prior knowledge

- Preparing students for the shift to secondary school and the diferent academic and social structures they'll find there.
