RATIONALE

To improve student learning by assessing their needs and progress against learning outcomes and for reporting purposes.


PURPOSE

1. To obtain useful, ongoing information to assist teachers review student progress and needs and incorporate this in future planning.

2. As a link between learning and planning to gauge the effectiveness of programmes. Effective assessment and evaluation should lead to learning and teaching.

3. To provide a basis for report to parents / caregivers about children’s learning and development.


GUIDELINES

1. Teachers should collect information through:
   a) day to day observation and work
   b) running records
   c) tests - standardised. School based and group based and individual
   d) conferencing
   e) anecdotal material
   f) parent/teacher/outside agencies records/data and discussions

2. Samples of students work in written language, reading, mathematics, social studies, science and technology must be available on each student each year.

3. Information on students must be recorded on the schools pupil profile sheets by the students subject teacher in line with the 'Evaluation/Assessment' Guidelines.

4. Ongoing data collection to suit the teachers individual needs on class lists, notes, Roll Books, Checklists etc which record the students progress and achievement must be kept class teachers.

5. All written statements should be able to be substantiated on student profile sheets.

6. The school report to parents is a summary of the assessment and evaluation information collected on each child.

7. The Technicraft teacher, Special Needs staff and Language and Maths extension teachers will have their own assessment and evaluation guidelines and student profile files.
