Dear Parents / Caregivers Thank you to all those families who have responded to the Values Survey. It is not too late to give your viewpoint. We do appreciate that all of the values are important but with your help we will hopefully decide on a list of core values that all members of the school community model and aspire to. Up until today we have had thirty seven replies, less than 10% of the school community. Operetta We are on the count down to our school operetta. Many hours of work have already gone in by members of the cast and the staff. Please support this large group of children by planning to attend one of their evening performances on Monday 18th, Tuesday 19th, Wednesday 20th September. Tickets will go on sale on Monday, 11th September – Adults $5.00, High School students $2.00, primary age children $1.00, Family Passes of 2 adults and 2 children will be $10.00. New Zealand AIMS Tournament Next week our school squash team will take part in the New Zealand Association of Intermediate and Middle Schools Sports Tournament. We wish this small group well. This tournament is organised by the Bay of Plenty Intermediate Schools Sport Association for teams from all over New Zealand, to compete in a number of varied sports. Mufti Day The School Council has organised a mufti day for this Friday, 1st September. It will cost students $1.00 to come to school in mufti with the proceeds going to cultural and social activities in the school. Turf Hockey The Turf Hockey team concluded a very successful season last
Friday. Their final game was followed by playing their parents – exact score
unknown! The team and their supporters then went to the Pizza Hutt for
dinner. Even though all players showed steady improvement as the season
progressed, a highlight has been Levon McCloskey’s inclusion in the Bay of
Plenty Boys A team. This team will participate in the Hatch Cup competition
in the next holidays. The players and coach have really appreciated the
commitment and support given throughout the season. New South Wales English Results We recently received the results of the Australasian English
Test. Twenty five Year 7 students and thirty Year 8 students participated in
the test which covered aspects of English such as reading, spelling,
grammar, punctuation, poetry and literary skills. We had three distinction
scores (above 85%): Jordan Redwood (Yr 8), Ben McKenzie and Hannah Dewhurst
(Yr 7). Ten students received credit (above 70%): (Yr.8) Kalem Ames, Jake
Belfield, Caroline Busfield, Lacy-Ann Lockley, Levon McCloskey, Cindy
Nguyen, Kendall Thomas and Sharnice Birch. (Yr.7) Mikaela Keir and Alannah
Pearce. We congratulate all those who took part. Waikato Intermediate Schools' Basketball Yesterday the girls and boys basketball teams travelled to Te Awamutu to participate in the Waikato Intermediate Championships. Both teams played well in their divisions. Well done to both teams on their positive representation of Tokoroa Intermediate. Rachel Toy Teacher In Charge Guides Waiariki In the Waiariki area we currently have girls aged 5 and 6 wanting to be
Pippins, girls 7 to 10 wanting to be Brownies and girls 10 to 14 wanting to
be Guides. To cater for these girls, Guides New Zealand is looking for
adults who would like to be leaders. Guiding is ‘giving’, but it is
also ‘gaining’ – new skills, new friends and its fun. If your girl is
not part of guiding then don’t let her miss out! Join now. Rangers is
also available for 14-18 year old girls who would like the ultimate
challenge. Phil Straw PRINCIPAL
