Dear Parents / Caregivers This Friday is the last day of Term 3. We hope that all staff and students have a good, well deserved break and return to school Monday, 9th October refreshed and ready for the last term of 2006. Operetta Tonight is the last opportunity to see the school operetta. My congratulations to all the students and staff involved in this production. The standards that have been reached are extremely high. My thanks to all those who have worked so hard to ensure this major school event was successful. In particular it is appropriate to acknowledge the tremendous hours of work put in by Mrs Long, Mr Creigh-Smith, Mr Wild, Mrs Henry, Mrs Carlson, Mr Knapman and Mrs Kingsley. Summer Uniform As we notified you last week, we start the change over to summer uniform at the start of Term 4. All students will be expected to be in summer uniform by Labour Weekend. One reminder – our uniform policy states that students must wear plain black or brown sandals (without socks) or plain black or brown lace up shoes (not track shoes) and plain white socks for girls (above ankle, below the knee), boys – grey socks with two red bands. The shoes are an important aspect of the uniform and we would ask that all families adhere to this. Year 8 pupils will generally find that the footwear required at Intermediate is the same as that required at most High Schools. Staff Changes At the end of this term we farewell some members of our staff. Ms Ali Fargher, our Library Manager is leaving to take up a new position in Rotorua. Miss Fiona Churchman has won a permanent teaching position in New Plymouth. Mrs Cathy Cresswell is also leaving Tokoroa Intermediate for a new position. We would like to formally thank all those staff for their efforts on behalf of our students and to wish them well in their future positions. We also wish Mrs Tania Carlson well as she leaves on two terms Maternity Leave. Board of Trustees Meeting Tonight at 6:00 p.m. in the school staffroom. We hope to have business completed to allow Board of Trustee members to attend the Operetta. Waikato Interschool Cross Country The Waikato Interschools Cross Country competition was held at Porrit Stadium on Tuesday, 22nd August. As yet we have not received official team results hence this late report. Conditions underfoot were very heavy with heavy showers and hail throughout the day. Tokoroa runners are accustomed to dry fast conditions and were somewhat disadvantaged. Highlights of the day were Tamati Lee finishing second in the Junior Boys division, Trae Rowbotham 5th, Regan Ware 6th and James Sutherland 9th in the Senior Boys. Rodger Edwards Teacher In Charge Student Success Congratulations to an up and coming soccer star! Letitia Taikato, Room 10 has been selected for the Waikato/BOP Force 3 Soccer Federation Under 12 ‘A” squad - a very exclusive group of top players. Letitia will be training and playing in the tournament throughout her holidays culminating in the NZ Under 12 Federation Tournament at St. Peters School in Cambridge 3rd October to 7th October. We wish Letitia and her team mates all the best – Well done! NZAIMS Championships A group of four boys travelled to Mount Maunganui last week for the New
Zealand AIMS Championships. They were competitors in the squash
sporting code. Matthew Meszaros placed 6th, Jayden Watene 8th, Jake
Belfield 9th and Logan Costar 15th. They were placed 4th overall for
their team. They all played extremely well and represented our school
with pride. A huge thank you to the parents that supported the boys.
