Dear Parents / Caregivers

Thank you to all those parents who responded to the Sexuality Education survey.  There was overwhelming support for this programme to continue in its current format (13% of parents responded with 97% of those wanting the status quo).  We thank parents for the ideas they suggested and we are looking at how we might implement some of these ideas.  There will be more detailed information once we are nearer the programme start date (early next term).

Lateness

With the onset of colder weather we are having large numbers of children arrive to school late.  Classes start each day at 8:50 a.m.  We would like children at school before this time so that they can be ready for class immediately the bell goes.  Please help us to support your child’s education by ensuring children arrive on time.  Children who arrive late miss out on vital instruction and disrupt classes for other students.

Parent Interviews

Monday, 26 June and Tuesday, 27 June

At mid-year we combine the issuing of a mid-year report with parent interviews.  A special newsletter will be issued this week detailing the system.  Please respond promptly.  While we endeavour to organise interviews to suit parents we must operate on a ‘first in – first choice’ basis.

As interviews start at 3:00p.m., school will finish at 2:30p.m. on Monday, 26 June and Tuesday, 27 June to enable teachers to make the necessary preparations for the interviews.

Change of Address and/or Phone Number

It is important that we have our student records up to date, especially phone numbers and emergency phone numbers in case of sickness or injury.  During the year if you change your address or phone number, please let us know by either phoning the school office or giving your child a note to bring to school.  We have a number of cellphone numbers that when contacted are no longer active.  These are causing us concern.

School Social

A reminder that our first school Social of the year is Thursday, 22 June.  Students must have an invitation which is signed by a parent before they are allowed in.

Several Important Reminders
  • Invitation permission slips must be presented at the door, signed by a parent / guardian.
  • Pupils will need to be brought to and collected from the hall. This is a condition of attending the Social. Students are not to arrange to meet parents in Elizabeth Drive, Billah Street or the Matarawa Bus Bay. This is for safety reasons.
  • The Elizabeth Drive gate will be open before the Social and again at the end of the Social.
  • A tidy standard of dress is required.
  • No hats, bandanas or beanies.
  • Bags are discouraged.
  • The Tuck Shop is open but large amounts of money are not to be brought.
  • Security will be in attendance to support the staff.
  • No pupils may leave the hall until dismissed by the teacher-in-charge.
