Dear Parents / Caregivers

This weekend is Queen’s Birthday. Monday, 5 June is a holiday.  If you are in Hamilton and would like to see the All Blacks there will be a public signing session at Waikato Stadium, 4:15 p.m. on that Monday afternoon.  Admission is free of charge.

Our congratulations to our girls rugby teams that competed in Cambridge yesterday.  The two teams came first equal and second respectively. A big thank you to Mr & Mrs Puke for the time spent training the teams on the weekends, also thanks to those parents who travelled with the team supporting them on the day.

We welcome Helen Dahm onto the Board of Trustees.  Helen fills the casual vacancy created by the resignation of Anna Glassie-Ryan.  I would like to thank Anna for the work she did during her time on the Board of Trustees.

Education Outside the Classroom

A gentle reminder that classes have Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) excursions during each term.  We are required to get permission slips for each event.  Please help teachers by returning these slips and paying money promptly.  If there are difficulties contact your child’s teacher to discuss alternatives.

Finishing School

We have a small group of children who are regularly missing Finishing School.  Those children often claim that their parent or other adult has advised them not to attend.  Please remember we do not want to give children Finishing School, they by their behaviours choose to be given it.  We need your support to ensure that children are on task and allowing the great majority of our children to learn in a safe environment.  If your child is given Finishing School and there is a genuine reason for non attendance on that day we can arrange alternatives.  Children who have after school jobs, sports practises, etc are best advised to behave appropriately and not get Finishing School.

If you are visiting the school during the school day you must report to and sign in at the office.  If you wish to talk to a teacher it is likely that it would not be appropriate during class time, please contact the teacher and make an appointment.

Waikato Intermediate Schools' Girls' Rugby

Yesterday two school teams travelled to Cambridge to play in the annual Intermediate Girls Rugby Competition.  This year saw the competition change from a 15 aside to a 10 aside game, this resulted in most schools opting to field teams in the Under 50kg section.

Our Under 50kg team, made up of mostly Year 7 girls, played 5 games and reached the finals where they were unfortunate to go down to Maeroa.  Although it was a team effort, players who stood out were; Sarah Bass, Simone Henderson, Rebecca Hoani, Laetitia Sheck and Letitia Taikato.

The Over 50kg team also made the final in their section.  This was a closely contested game, which even after playing into extra time resulted in a draw.  This made our girls joint winners of the Vanessa Cootes Shield (A trophy Tokoroa Intermediate has won / jointly won for the past seven years!)

The team captain Jessica Ria played tirelessly in all games.  Other players to stand out were; Alice Marama- Nepe, Heavenlee Proebstel and the hard working Starskiia Sarsfield.

Many thanks to the many parents who came to support; in particular those fathers who assisted with side line coaching.

Finally I’d like to thank the girls themselves, for not only representing our school so well both on and off the field, but also for giving up time in their weekends to come back to school to practice.

Kirsty Puke,
TIC Girls Rugby
