Dear Parents / Caregivers A reminder that next Monday, 22 May school will finish early (2:00p.m.) to allow staff to attend professional development. Year 7 teachers are working on the Numeracy Project and this is the third workshop of five scheduled for 2006. School Charter Earlier this year our revised Charter was sent to the Ministry of Education. The Charter sets targets for 2006. As in recent years our targets have been set in the literacy/numeracy areas and they state what we hope children will be able to achieve by the end of the school year. Any parent/guardian who wishes to view the Charter may do so at the school office. It will also be available on the School Web Site. There will be updates of how we have achieved in reaching these targets through our newsletters late in the year. Noho Marae This weekend our very large Kapa Haka group will spend most of the weekend at Papa O Te Aroha on a noho marae. This will give the students the opportunity to get to know each other and their tutors, Charles Te Pana and Tangiwai Amopiu better. It will start with a powhiri on Friday evening and will be an intensive weekend of learning and fun. Weekend Sport It was great to see so many students enjoying their netball and soccer. My thanks to the parents and teachers who were working to make these regular events so successful. Mufti Day The School Council has organised the first mufti day of the year for this Friday. It will cost students $1.00 to come to school in mufti with the proceeds going to World Vision. Board of Trustees Meeting Tonight at 7:00 p.m. in the staff room. Short Days If the lunchtime is shortened by half an hour because of wet weather, school will finish at 2:40 p.m. If parents want to know whether or not we are finishing early, please phone 886 0804 after 12:15 p.m. Telecom Education Foundation We have 3˝ weeks left until the competition finishes. Some individual students and classes have got right behind this fundraising venture. I am hopeful that the students who have not got sponsors to date will make a special effort over the next 3˝ weeks. Most of the money used to purchase computers and ICT gear the school owns, has been raised by past students. I would hope present students also do their bit so ICT equipment can be replaced. Vic O’Rourke TIC Telecom Fundraising Netball Opening Day ran smoothly on Saturday. The girls got to shake off their nerves and enjoy a few short games of netball. Parent support is still needed at and away from the courts. If you can help to wash your teams uniforms please let the coach or manager know. NETBALL REP TRIALS There will be rep trials this Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Tokoroa Netball Centre. Any Year 7 and Year 8 girls can trial. They need to get a registration form from me at school, fill it in and take it upstairs at the pavilion prior to the trials on Saturday afternoon. Tania Carlson TIC Netball Indoor Hockey The Indoor Hockey competition started last Thursday with nine teams from our school. Many thanks to the parents/guardians for ensuring players are at the Y.M.C.A. fifteen minutes before their games and collected from inside at the conclusion of play.
