| Newsletter 10th May, 2006 - Term 2 - No3 | |||||||||||||||
Dear Parents / Caregivers Firstly, a big thank you to all families who returned the Technology Arts survey. We have had an excellent response. It is not too late to return these as we will start to collate the results after Friday. In newsletters over the coming weeks we will be seeking your view point about a range of issues. Please have your say. Today’s consultation is related to Sexuality Education and how it is delivered at Tokoroa Intermediate School. Telecom Science Road Show 11 & 12 May. A reminder for those who will be going there is a cost of $5.00. Classroom teacher will advise their students. Sporting Opportunities Thank you to those parents, friends of the school and
teachers who have offered their time, energy and expertise to coach or
manage sports teams. Without your generosity we would not be able to
offer the range of opportunities for your children. It is also good to
see the positive support for children from parents on the sideline.
This year we are offering Saturday netball and soccer with hockey being
played on Thursday nights and one team goes across to Rotorua on a Friday
evening. Also this term we have Waikato Intermediate Schools sports
events for squash (already played), girls rugby, netball (hosted by us), and
hockey. Lunchtime sports for Term 2 starts today (weather permitting) with
an inter-class rugby tournament. All of these sports, while being
competitive and involving a large number of children, are also provided to
encourage participation and enjoyment. It is important that there are
no incidents that spoil the event for the players, coaches, managers and
spectators. We do have a “Fair Play” code and if all involved abide by
this, everyone is a winner. Early Finish In the first newsletter of this term you were advised that there would be an early finish on Tuesday, 22 May for a Numeracy Workshop (staff development). This should read Monday, 22 May. School will close at 2:00 p.m. Change Over to Winter Uniform A BIG thank you to all those who have made the change to winter uniform. For those of you still in summer uniform, please make this change over as soon as possible. If students are waiting for tracksuits through the school, we will fit them out as soon as the back orders arrive. Attendance As you will be aware Tokoroa Intermediate is part of a district wide drive to improve school attendance. Thank you to those parents who contact the school when their child is absent, it certainly helps us. We have noticed a trend for attendance to be significantly lower on Mondays and Fridays. Please help us to help your child by ensuring they are at school on time every day unless there is a legitimate reason for them to be away. Please remember that the first requirement for children to learn at school is that they must be there. If a child is away for a day they often miss learning that affects their learning on subsequent days. Unless a child is sick or there is a family bereavement then they should be at school. Thank you for your support in this area. Board of Trustees Meeting Next Wednesday, 17 May in the staff room. Agenda available from the office, Monday, 15 May. Turf Hockey This Friday is the first game in Rotorua for the Turf Hockey team. They will be playing John Paul 2. The team is: Lisa Amohia, Tayjana Brown, Laura Clark, Jesse Chettleburgh, Jason Harris, Levon McCloskey, Ben McKenzie, Te Maioha Makekau, Giselle Paaki, Chris-Arne Patena, Daemon Placid, Jordan Pye, Jessica Ria, Joseph Rusk and Heath Taylor. Kitty Moon, TIC Hockey Rugby League For any boys interested in playing Rugby League for Forestland Rugby League U14’s, there is training this Thursday, 11 May at 4:30 p.m. down at the sports grounds.
