Dear Parents / Caregivers

Welcome back to Term 2

Thank you to those parents who have started this term promptly.  The confusion that the shortened holiday has caused has resulted in a large number of absentees.  If you know of families that have not yet returned to school you might gently remind them that school has restarted for the term.

School Fundraising

Telecom Education Foundation Sponsorship

This is our school’s main fundraising programme and brings into the school approximately $20,000 a year.  All money raised from the Telecom Education Foundation goes towards purchasing ICT equipment, e.g. computers, printers, scanners, digital cameras, video cameras, etc.  This school fundraising programme kicks off next Thursday.  Students are asked to get sponsors.  Details will be provided to all parents in a newsletter, which will outline the fundraising project and prizes available to all students.

A reminder that this does not cost people who sponsor the school any money.  Telecom pays the school.  All students need to do is get sponsors from people who use Telecom for their toll calls (private not business).  Please support your child to get sponsors as all money is used to purchase ICT equipment for the school, which benefits all students.  In the last twelve months we have purchased eleven computers and monitors, one printer, upgraded our network hubs to switches, renewed our subscription to School Zone (filtered internet access), plus wireless network to one classroom at a cost of $37,926.00 with other purchases planned for later in the year.

The Telecom fundraising project will start on Thursday, 4 May.  Students will be given information to bring home next week.

Student Success

Tokoroa Intermediate student, Jessica Ria was part of the successful Tainui Waikato U13 Netball representative team which won the 19th Annual Aotearoa Maori Netball National title during the Easter Weekend tournament held at Whakatane.  Jessica, an all round active sportsperson in Touch Rugby, Swimming, Athletics, Cross Country and Hockey, plays Saturday netball for the Tokoroa Intermediate School Form 2A team and has been a representative player for Year 6 and Year 7 in the Tokoroa Netball reps.  The U13 team, coached by Jan Coffin, won all nine games they played.  This was Jessica’s 1st National Netball Tournament and was certainly a good experience as the other provincial teams participating came from throughout New Zealand from Te Tai Tokerau (Northland) down to Te Waipounamu (Christchurch, Southland and Invercargill).
