Dear Parents / Caregivers

Firstly I would like to thank all those parents who attended the Meet the Teacher evening last night.  I hope that you found it beneficial.

A reminder to all parents that we have an open door policy.  If you have any queries or concerns please contact the class teacher to make an appointment to meet with him/her.  Making an appointment avoids the disappointment of coming up to school and not being able to meet with the person you wish to see because they are teaching or in a meeting.

Settling in Reports will be sent home in just over three weeks.  There will be more information relating to these reports in future newsletters.

Staff Focus on Professional Development

As you will be aware, the staff development focus for 2006 and 2007 will involve numeracy.  The contract that our Year 7 teachers are on involves some afternoon workshops – you will be notified in advance if we intend to close the school early to allow our teachers to attend.  Bus children will be supervised until the bus arrival time.  We would ask that arrangements are made to ensure other children are supervised.  On these days school will finish at 2:00 p.m. to allow staff to be ready for a workshop from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m.  Year 8 teachers will be working on a separate professional development programme.

Te Reo Maori Option

A newsletter will be given to students who wish to join the Te Reo Maori programme.  If your child did not bring home a “Te Reo Maori Option” newsletter and you are interested in finding out more, or would like him or her to join, please ask your child to bring home the newsletter or contact the school so we can get one to you.

School Swimming Sports 2006

The school swimming sports for 2006 were held at the South Waikato Indoor Pools on Wednesday, 15 February.  A large group of parents, grandparents, whanau and friends turned up to support the students in their efforts and create a successful day for this event.  A big thank you to those who assisted with the timing and control of races.  No school records fell during the day’s races.

Participation points for the day were:

Safety Issues

When parents are dropping children off or picking them up at our Elizabeth Drive entrance please park well clear of the yellow “No Parking” lines.  The slight rise and busy road make this a dangerous entrance way if it is congested with cars.  Cyclists and pedestrians must use the crossing – remember to dismount and walk across if cycling.

Could parents please stop vehicles clear of our main entrance way.  The car park is a small area and when cars park/stop in the gateway they create a safety hazard.

Thank you for your co-operation with these.
