Dear Parents / Caregivers
Spring Clean South Waikato
Our school was involved in a South Waikato District Council project, Spring
Clean South Waikato. This involved the Year 8 students spending
approximately ˝ hour picking up rubbish in the streets surrounding our
school. We see this as an opportunity to make our town tidier and
improve the image of Tokoroa, as well as encouraging students to do their
part in making Tokoroa a better place to live (Civic Pride). Other
schools will be involved in this project next term.

Kapa Haka Noho MaraeThirty eight
students, the tutors (Charles Tepana and Tangiwai Amopiu) with guitarist
Mansell Moke, Kirsty Puke and some parents, spent Friday evening, Saturday
and Sunday at Papa o te Aroha practising their items.
They performed on Friday afternoon for Tokoroa High School and our parents
on Sunday afternoon. From the standard of their performance at this
stage, we can look forward to them excelling at the Manu Ariki Cultural
Festival and Tokoroa Schools’ Polynesian Festival in November.

School SocialA reminder that our Term 3
school Social is next Wednesday, 21st September, 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
I have included last week’s newsletter information in case some parents
missed it.
The Social is by invitation only. Before children can be considered
for an invitation they need to make sure that all outstanding fees have been
paid (this does not include school fees). If you owe money you will
have received an account in the mail over the last three weeks.
Several Important Reminders
- Invitation permission slips must be presented at the door, signed by a parent / guardian.
- Pupils will need to be brought to and collected from the hall. This is a condition of attending the Social.
Students are not to arrange to meet parents in Elizabeth Drive, Billah Street or the Matarawa Bus Bay. This is
for safety reasons.
- The Elizabeth Drive gate will be open before the Social and again at the end of the Social.
- A tidy standard of dress is required.
- No hats, bandanas or beanies.
- Bags are discouraged.
- The Tuck Shop is open but large amounts of money are not to be brought.
- Security will be in attendance to support the staff.
- No pupils may leave the hall until dismissed by the teacher-in-charge.

Waikato Intermediate Schools' Cross Country
Last Thursday twenty-eight students from Tokoroa Intermediate School
represented the school at the Waikato Intermediate Schools’ Cross Country
Championships.
This event was held at Porritt Stadium in Hamilton. It is the first
time the event has been held at this venue and was deemed a success by all
those who attended. The course was rolling and in some places quite
steep and soft under foot. Distances run were 3500m Senior & Junior
Boys and 3000m for the Senior & Junior Girls.
We were fortunate to have a fine day as there was no shelter, other than
trees, if the weather had not been kind. Parent support was excellent
with eleven parents and grandparents supporting our runners.
At the time of writing, no official results have been received nor any
certificates (no power at the venue for computers), but Charlotte Dean ran
second in the Senior Girls division and at this stage the Senior Boys team
was second in their division. Runners to score were Alex Hale, Rhys
Cooney, Ben Nicholson, Aaron Smith and Greg Hill (only the first five
runners scored for the teams event). Official results to follow.

includes some of the top High School and adult teams).

Soccer Success
Last Saturday was the final day of soccer for 2005. In the A Division
we had two teams in the top four placings.
The Tokoroa Intermediate School “Cannibals” coming out on top to take their
division. For 3rd and 4th Amisfield played the Tokoroa Intermediate
School “Hornets” with the “Hornets” winning.
Congratulations to both teams and thank you to Mrs Stobie and Miss Ritchie
for the many lunchtimes and Saturdays they put into coaching the teams and
supporting them.

Indoor Hockey
The Indoor Hockey season finished recently with our teams featuring in the
top four places. Tokoroa Intermediate 1 won the competition and
Tokoroa Intermediate 2 came fourth. The indoor competition proved
extremely popular and having it on Thursdays allowed students from other
sporting codes to participate. During Term 3 the school had nine teams
participating and hopefully the current Year 7’s will continue again next
year.
Tokoroa 1: Fraser Flutey, Trent Main, Kamryn Brown, Morgan Pourau,
Levon McCloskey, Te Rangimoeakau Matenga, Zach Amohia
Tokoroa 2: Jordan Pye, Daemon Placid, Chris-Arne Patena, Lisa Amohia,
Tayjana Brown, Mana Samuela, Jason Harris-Simiona.

Reminder - Meningococcal Immunisation
The fourth round will be this Friday, 16th September and it will provide the
last opportunity for children to complete their three immunisations in the
school setting. If for some reason children have not been able to
complete their three vaccinations by the time round four is finished, they
will need to go to their GP to complete the programme.

Message from the Dental Team
A reminder to parents that the school Social is on Wednesday, 21st
September, 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The Social is by invitation only.
Huge smiles to all the Year 8 parents, children and teachers who have filled
out, returned and collected dental enrolment forms that entitle children to
free dental care by a dentist until they turn eighteen.
We still have approximately thirty-five forms not returned. Children
that have not returned their forms will not be enrolled with a dentist.
You can get replacement forms at the Dental Clinic, but we are leaving at
the end of Term 3 so they will have to be back A.S.A.P.
