Dear Parents / Caregivers

The school Cross Country for 2005 was held on the school circuit on Thursday, 18 August.  A perfect Tokoroa day provided great conditions for the running of this annual event.  A large and vocal group of supporters, parents and friends of the school turned out to bask in the afternoon sunshine and enjoy the event, supporting their children.  A 90% participation by students and the fact that 400 students completed the course is testament to the tenacity and persistence of our students.  Congratulations to all those who took part.

Sexuality Development Education

Our Sexual Development Education programme starts on Monday.  A reminder that if you do not wish your child to attend these sessions, please write a note to your child’s teacher advising him / her of this (we need this in writing).  If you, for some reason, did not get last week’s newsletter outlining the programme, ask your child to get a copy from the office.

Vision Screening

Vision Hearing Technicians from Community Health will be visiting Thursday, 1 September.  The objective of the visit is to identify previously undetected vision defects.

All Year 7 students will be screened
All Year 7 boys will also have a colour vision check

If any parents / guardians do not want their child to be checked or their child is currently under specialist care for a vision defect, they should let the school know.  Other students will be checked if there is a genuine reason for concern about them.

This will not be a complete vision examination, but a simple screening test.  When an unsatisfactory result is obtained it will be necessary for the Technician to obtain personal details, i.e. home address and date of birth, and parents / guardians will be advised to seek further advice.

School Lunches

Our school is aware of making healthy food available to the students for lunches.  We are now selling hot “mini meals’ for $2.20 from the canteen.  The meals the students can buy are spaghetti bolognaise, macaroni cheese, butter chicken or ham, cheese and potato.  As there is only one type of meal available each day, the students will be told what it is the day before.
