Dear Parents / Caregivers
Miss Shenell Potoru is taking maternity leave until the end of the year.
Mrs Tania Carlson, who is returning from maternity leave, will teach Room 16
until the end of the year. We wish Shenell all the best and hope
everything goes to plan.
Tokoroa Truancy Initiative
The Tokoroa police have started a Truancy initiative, which involves working
with the Tokoroa Truancy Service and schools, to improve student attendance
in all schools.
Any school age students seen by police, not at school during
school hours, will be stopped and questioned. As well, the police will
be visiting homes of students who are absent and have a history of irregular
attendance.
Our school requests that parents/guardians contact us and let us
know if your child is going to be away on the day they are absent.
Starting next week, if this does not occur, parents/guardians will receive a
letter advising that this must occur. If this continues the Truance
Service and Police will be given the names and addresses and they will visit
homes.
If attendance becomes a learning concern (is irregular) then the
Police and Children, Youth and Family Service (CYFS) will become
involved.
This initiative, which is funded by Ministry of Education, has the
support of the police. It is improve attendance in Tokoroa schools and
reduce crime as much of the crime committed during the day time is by school
aged students.
If your child is not going to be at school, please phone us.

Intermediate Schools' Rugby Competition
Forty-eight boys travelled by bus to Bedford Park, Matamata, yesterday for
the annual tournament. They were accompanied by a large group of
parents, grandparents, friends and whanau who provided vocal support and
encouragement.
Split into two teams they played in both the under
55kg and over 55kg divisions.
The over 55kg team was by far the
outstanding team of the tournament scoring the most tries overall and coming
equal on the points with Fairfield. However, under the tournament
rules, Fairfield was awarded first place having beaten Tokoroa 7-0 in the
third game.
The under 55kg team struggled at times against heavier
opposition but managed two draws and two losses in their four games.
All students performed with credit on and off the field, a fact noted by
Gerard O'Neil, the tournament organiser, when he phoned the school after the
tournament to congratulate the players on their behaviour and skill level.

Indoor Hockey Reminder
With the increased number of teams in Thursdays competition at the Y.M.C.A.
it is imperative that all players are at the Y.M.C.A. fifteen minutes before
their games and collected from inside the stadium when their games have
finished. As there is very little room for spectators, students are
not to use indoor hockey as a drop in centre for socialising.

Relief Cleaner - Vacancy
Our school has a vacant position for a relief cleaner. We have six
cleaners and from time to time we need a relief cleaner to cover sickness,
etc. Work would involve cleaning classrooms from 3:10pm - 5:50pm
approximately. This position may lead onto permanent work as and when
a vacancy occurs. Please phone Brian Fisher (Deputy Principal), if
interested.
