Dear Parents / Caregivers

PARENT INTERVIEWS AND REPORT AFTERNOON / EVENINGS – Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th July

Parent Interview information will be given out today to students where there are two or more from the same family attending Tokoroa Intermediate School.  This is to enable interviews to be co-ordinated so that parents with interviews with two teachers can have them timetabled close together.  For parents with two children at school, please make sure interview sheets are returned tomorrow to enable this to happen.  All other parents will receive the Parent Interview Information tomorrow.  A reminder, the sooner interview sheets are returned to school, the more likely it is to get the time slot requested.

School will finish at 2:30p.m. on Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th July to enable teachers to be set up and be ready to start interviews at 3:00p.m.

Education Review Office Report

Continuing on from last weeks newsletter are some other areas of “good performance in Reading”.

Professional Leadership: The Principal and members of the senior management team are providing high quality professional leadership.  A strong team of senior teachers ably supports them.  The role of the literacy leader has been vital to the successful development and implementation of the reading focus.  As a result of this highly effective team approach, teachers, support staff and students share a common understanding of school-wide developments in reading.

Student Engagement: The expectations and routines set for learning and behaviour by teachers are clearly understood by students and result in positive student-teacher interactions.  A high level of student engagement in learning and focused on-task behaviour is contributing to raising levels of achievement and participation school wide.  Students are enthusiastic about learning, enjoy being at school and are strongly motivated to achieve success.

Library Information Centre: A well-equipped library information centre supports the reading programme across the school.  Students benefit from a wide range of reading resources and access to computers for knowledge and research purposes is fully utilised.  This extensively used facility is open and accessible to students within and out of school hours.  Recreational reading and research skills are being enhanced.

The latest ERO report is now available on the Education Review Office website – www.ero.govt.nz

School Social

A reminder that our first school social of the year is next Wednesday 29th June, 7:00p.m. to 9:30p.m.  I have included last week’s newsletter information in case some parents missed it - The Social is by invitation only.  Before children can be considered for an invitation they need to make sure that all outstanding fees have been paid (this does not include school fees).  If you owe money you will have received an account in the mail over the last three weeks.

Several Important Reminders

  • Invitation permission slips must be presented at the door, signed by a parent / guardian.
  • Pupils will need to be brought to and collected from the hall.  This is a condition of attending the Social.  Students are not to arrange to meet parents in Elizabeth Drive, Billah Street or the Matarawa Bus Bay.  This is for safety reasons.
  • The Elizabeth Drive gate will be open before the Social and again at the end of the Social.
  • A tidy standard of dress is required.
  • No hats, bandanas or beanies.
  • Bags are discouraged.
  • The Tuck Shop is open but large amounts of money are not to be brought.
  • Security will be in attendance to support the staff.
  • No pupils may leave the hall until dismissed by the teacher-in-charge.

Netball

Form 1A and Form 2A netball teams played exceptionally well at the Waikato Intermediates Netball Tournament held yesterday in Tokoroa.  Unfortunately both teams missed the finals but the girls should feel proud of the high level of skills they showed on the day.  A big thank you to the players for their excellent behaviour and to the six girls who came down to help with the running of the tournament.

S.Potoru,
TIC Netball

I would like to thank Shenell Potoru, Jeannette Beale and Joyce Daniel for their efforts in organising and running an excellent tournament.
