Dear Parents / Caregivers

Our School Council at its meeting last Thursday decided it wanted to show the South Waikato District Council that the students of Tokoroa Intermediate School supported the re-opening of the local picture theatre and were willing to do their part by contributing.

On Friday students were given the opportunity to make a donation towards the opening of the theatre.

Representatives of the School Council then visited the South Waikato District Council office on Monday and gave the mayor a donation of $400.00 from the students of Tokoroa Intermediate School as well as a list of students who contributed.

Hopefully the South Waikato District Council will realise that the picture theatre is an amenity that has the support of not only many adults in the area but the youth of the town.

Meningococcal B Immunisation

Students received their second meningococcal B vaccination today.  Teachers monitored the students during the day.

If your child is unwell tomorrow we request you keep them at home as we don’t have sick bay facilities at school for a number of unwell students.

With the last meningococcal vaccination, the vast majority of students showed no adverse reaction although a number did feel unwell and needed to lie down and rest the following day.

School Targets

Targets are now a charter requirement. Parents, at the consultation meetings in 2002 and again last year, indicated they wanted Tokoroa Intermediate to focus on numeracy and literacy.  All our targets are in these areas.

The targets include oral language, vocabulary development, written language, reading (finding information in books and reference sources) and computation (multiplication and division).

Over the last two weeks and next week students will be carrying out tests and assessment tasks to measure progress made and the areas we need to focus our teaching on over the remainder of the year.

We not only aggregate results to measure the progress made over the whole school in each target area but also have results for each child.

If you wish to see your child’s results and progress since the beginning of the year, please ask your teacher for these at mid year interviews at the end of this term.

Dropping off and Collecting Students from the Maraetai Rd Entrance

With the large number of parents now using this entrance and waiting for students on the hard court area outside the old Matarawa school there is the potential for an accident as many of our students come to school and go home via this entrance.

As well, Tokoroa High now use the old Matarawa site and their students go backwards and forwards to the High School through the hard court area and paths.

A request from both schools:
1. Drive slowly along the driveway and on the hard court area.
2. Look out for students at all times.
3. No cars are to park on or go across the fields.
