Dear Parents / Caregivers

Our 2005 Charter has been completed and forwarded to the Ministry of Education who will provide us with feedback on it.  A part of the Charter is the targets set in literacy and numeracy which we are hopeful the students will be able to achieve by the end of the school year.  We will let parents know how well we have done in reaching the targets through our newsletters.  If there are any parents who would like to view this year’s Charter there is a copy in the school office.

Kapa Haka Noho Marae

Most of the school Kapa Haka group spent last weekend at Papa O Te Aroha on a noho marae.  The weekend was an opportunity for the group to get to know each other and their tutors, Charles Tepana and Tangiwai Amopiu better.  It started with a powhiri on Friday evening and during the course new waiata were learnt and all children gave their pepeha.  The noho was not all work – the children started each day with Whaea Tangiwai’s martial arts lessons and had a ‘fun evening’ on Saturday night.

Many thanks to those parents who generously donated food, to Melanie Karaitaiana and Amy Awatere for ensuring the children were well fed, and to the small group of parents who supported the group over the weekend.

Kirsty Puke
Kapa Haka Co-ordinator

Tokoroa Intermediate Girls Rugby Team Wins Again!!!

The Tokoroa Intermediate Girls Rugby team travelled to Cambridge yesterday to compete in the Waikato Inter – Intermediate Girls Rugby Competition.  They competed in the over 50kg section and defeated Matamata, St Andrews and Melville in pool play, before defeating Melville again in the final.

The final proved to be a closely contested game and despite our girls being 14-12 down at half time, they fought back strongly to eventually win 24-14.  This meant that for the 6th consecutive year Tokoroa Intermediate won the Vanessa Cootes Shield.

Chelsea Alley captained the team and showed her experience and skills throughout the entire tournament; scoring an impressive 21 tries and 12 conversions.  The whole team played tirelessly throughout their games; amassing a formidable 206 points for and only conceding 19 against.  All players are to be congratulated for their efforts and behaviour on the day, on and off the field.

Special mention must go to Jessica Ria and Whetu White who had an outstanding tournament for ‘first time’ rugby players.  Many thanks to Ryan Ihekiripa for his enthusiasm and very vocal support on the day.

Kirsty Puke
Teacher with Responsibility for Girls rugby

I would like to thank Kirsty for the time and effort she gave to the Kapa Haka group over the weekend and for co-ordinating the girls rugby.  Also to Mike Puke for coaching the team.
The success of many of our extra curricular activities are the direct result of the effort and commitment of teaching staff and parents / friends of the school.
