Dear Parents / Caregivers

I would like to thank all parents who have returned the enrolment forms.  It is important that we have our records up to date, especially phone numbers and emergency phone numbers in case of sickness or injury.  If you haven’t returned the form it is not too late.  If you need another one ask your child to pick one up from the office.

During the year if you change your address or phone number, please let us know by either phoning the school office or giving your child a note to bring to school.

Te Reo Maori

If you wish your child to learn Te Reo Maori on a Friday morning and haven’t returned the form, we require notification by next week as this is when lessons start.  Forms are available from the office if you have lost the one brought home or didn’t get one. Ask your child to collect one and bring it home.

Medical Problems

It is important the school is aware of children who have serious medical problems for their well-being and safety.  If your child has a medical problem, e.g. is an epileptic, bad asthmatic, is allergic to bee stings, etc, please advise either the classroom teachers, the school office, or Principal.  Information where necessary, will be kept confidential to those who need to know.  It is important parents/guardians are familiar with the policy on Administering Medication at School.

Some of the requirements included in the Policy are:

  1. All medicine required to be taken at school must be in the original container stating type, dose and frequency, name of patient and doctor.
  2. All parents/guardians supplying medication to be taken at school must fill out a form stating that they have requested the school to administer it on their behalf.
  3. All medicine must be taken in the Sick Bay under the supervision of a ‘specified staff’ member and it must not be taken away by the student.
Policies are put in place to protect students as well as staff.  Both parents and staff need to ensure the medication is provided to students who need it and that they get the correct dosage at the right time.  As well, it is important that medication of any form is not available to students for whom it is not prescribed.

Kapa Haka

Tangiwai Amopiu and Charles Te Pana are our tutors for this year.  Students have provided Mrs Puke (teacher with responsibility for Kapa Haka) with their names.  If your child hasn’t joined and you would like him/her to, talk to your child about it as it is not too late.  If you need further information contact Mrs Puke.

Swimming Sports

The school swimming sports for 2005 were held at the South Waikato Indoor Pools on Wednesday, 16 February.  A large group of parents and whanau turned up to support the students in their efforts.  A big thank you to all those parents who assisted with the timing, judging and control of races.  A special thanks also to the pool staff for their assistance.

Kamryn Brown (Senior Boys) broke two records.  The Boys Open 75m Freestyle and the Senior Boys Medley.

Hobson took a slender lead in the participation points with 125, Cobham 124, Grey 121 and Freyberg 102. T hey consolidated on this during finals to eventually become the 2005 champion.
